Dear Friends,
I’m excited to announce the official newsletter of The Pack: ¿Cachai?
¿Cachai? (Ka-chay) is Chilean slang for “You know what I mean?”, a question to affirm whether or not one is understood. It is a bilingual portmanteau combining the English verb “to catch” with the Chilean Spanish verb ending “ai” (second person imperative, if you’re a grammar person).
This word, in itself, is a connector, a question, and a poem. A combination of misfits finding each other beyond linguistic convention. It is a word for the wild.
As artists, we mirror the world with idiosyncrasy. Understanding an artist’s language is possible, but not certain. It requires deep listening and empathic translation, much like the meeting of individuals from different cultures, territories, or tongues.
Coming from multicultural ancestry that can most nearly be described as Chilean-American, I relate to ¿Cachai? as a mode of existence. The poetic blending of words, worlds, and ways of being makes translatable kin of everything. This is the origin of my current incarnation as an artist and the origin of the ideas behind The Pack— an art school for the wild.
Subscribe to ¿Cachai? for the love of synchronized idiosyncrasies written in the romance language of art. I will be sharing notes from the studio, news from the classroom, moon cycle insights, tarot readings, and an overall glimpse into the biodiversity of The Pack.
